My Interactive Garden

My suburban pre-war semi-detached house (1930's) is situated in the corner of the street, with very little front garden. This opens out into an extensive back area 180 feet at the longest length and 90 feet at the widest width, roughly the shape of two triangles. The direction of the garden faces west from the house. From the conservatory/patio/pond area I like to see long vistas and the eye is drawn down two broad grassy walks to various focal points - a mature silver birch and a pergola respectively.

The walks are bounded by 5 large herbaceous beds and 2 rockery areas each different in character. There is a woodland walk of mature oaks underplanted with leylandii and holly at the bottom of the garden which leads to 'the mine' water feature. The 2 red sheds and greenhouse are screened by golden leylandii (well under control!) and are entered through hedge archways. The northern boundary is a mature hawthorn hedge.

From the back door you enter a small paved area with a high fence and archway to the kitchen garden and a brick archway to the patio area. The overall style is a 'Cottage garden' with some 'architectural' plant features. I like beds of purple, pink and white plants but experiment with dashes of orange. Yellow plants/flowers are confined to the front garden and a small area by the shed. I also have a blue plant/flower gravel bed by the pond on the patio.

The 'Interactive Garden' itself is divided into ten 'clickable' areas, the four major planting beds, the rockery, the arbor/pergola, the side courtyard, the kitchen garden, the patio/pond area and the 'Woodland Walk' that runs the length of the rear edge of the garden.

Each site hold details and planting information about the various plants, shrubs and bushes I have used, each with a picture and brief description.
